Dr. Martin S. High
B.S. - The Pennsylvania
State University, M.S, Ph.D Ibid Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering.
Marty has taught our undergraduate Unit Operations Laboratory courses, the College's core course in thermodynamics, and a
graduate course he developed, Introduction to Polymer Science and Engineering. Marty is interested in all aspects of chemical
engineering. A few years ago, he worked in process monitoring and control of a chip carrier manufacturing process at IBM.
Since then, he has been heavily involved in applied thermodynamics. More recently, he moved into the area of the thermodynamics
of polymer systems. Marty's current research revolves around the study of polymer physical chemistry and applied polymer science.
In particular, he is interested in the transport and thermodynamic properties of gases in polymers, polymer solutions, and
polymer blends. One of his group's more interesting experimental approaches uses a quartz crystal as a highly sensitive balance
to measure the transport of solvent into a polymer film. Marty's teaching interests include transport phenomena, thermodynamics,
process dynamics and control, and polymer science and engineering.
